Cost-effective packaging of small batches

Proposal for the development of a cost-optimized packaging system for small batches including an analysis of the existing and future packaging portfolio. Expansion of packaging capacities with a view to future demands on secondary packaging (serialisation, multi-language texts,…).

Evaluation of different packaging lines with regard to their suitability for the proposed packaging system.

On behalf of an internationally active pharmaceutical company, we were commissioned by, and cooperated with, Angerhöfer Consulting and the company’s existing secondary packaging plant for medium and small batches to devise a new, fully automated packaging system (platform system) which would take into account the foreseeable expansion of the portfolio.

The cost of implementing the new system was coordinated with various packaging material manufacturers (folding cartons, package leaflets, adhesive labels), and

a number of different packaging machine manufacturers were asked to put forward their designs for machines.

In collaboration with the client a rating matrix was generated for the packaging system and the proposed packaging machines. This enabled us to identify a future-proof and cost-effective packaging material/machine combination.
